3 MORE WAYS TO BE AN EFFECTIVE BOARD MEMBER
Continued from last months’ newsletter, these tips will help you become a more successful member of any boardroom:
1. Be the director, not the CEO. Your job is to provide oversight and guidance to management’s decisions, not to carry out operations yourself.
2. Develop the art of influencing peers. You may be used to being the boss in the business world, but in the boardroom, operational titles and hierarchy become irreleveant. Learn how to communicate effectively on a peer level with the other smart and accomplished people who surround the table.
3. Be there. And be there 3x as much in a crisis. You are important to the company’s success and must be present and focused at every meeting. When crisis hits, you must be willing to spend whatever time it takes to see the issues through.
